For years, Venice has served as a model and inspiration to Vicente Peris. Its magical essence of a dreamlike city on water, the duality between the actual object and its reflection, the mystery behind what is and isn’t real, has transformed itself into his pictorial obsession. Through the veiled masks of its carnavales and a phenomenal concentration of centuries-old European art; through its artful musicians, museums, and architecture, the painter —a frequent visitor and resident of this enchanted city— has constructed a unique universe within his own mind and body of work.
In his collection, Peris expresses this inner universe using a multidisciplinary approach: an installation of paintings, ceramics, sculpture, and reflective silver masks. It would appear he is incapable of limiting himself to a single form, or to the confines of a two-dimensional painting.
