“We come from light, the sun. Everything that is illuminated has a shadow. Every shadow has a soul.”
Vicente Peris
Comprising three interactive installations of exploring different materials and formats, The Shadow is an installation of interrelated and non-linear continuums. The cornerstone of this three part work based on the shadow is The Transparent Shadow ¹. A continuum of 200 meters/659ft. of canvas painted with explosive emulsion and ignited, the shadow of a dance is seared into the canvas. First exhibited in 2003, the several hundred meter continuum is organized into spaces that are interactive, yielding visual reconfigurations of compositions of shadows on planes of varying depths, suggesting a glimpse of the ultimate reality that lie behind the shadows.
The Colored Shadows and The Liberated Shadow are the most recent works and still in progress of Vicente Peris. The Colored Shadows is a fragmented continuum of paintings on door like structures akin to closets, that open and close. The installation features numerous three dimensional interactive doors and paintings that create multiple perspectives in a fragmented continuum.
The Liberated Shadow is an installation inspired by revolving doors. Peris uses large sheets of transparent acetate to paint the outlines of the shadows of a soccer game. Suspended to a central structure as hanging mobiles that revolve, this interactive installation of mobiles and paintings is a moving labyrinth of endless combinations, creating a transversal continuum of moments and perspectives.
